Backup Location
Choose where BeeMail stores your email archive — local drive, external disk, or network share.
Default backup folder
Out of the box, BeeMail saves your email backups in its own folder inside your user directory. Each email account gets its own subfolder, and emails are organized by date automatically.
Changing where backups are stored
- Open Settings (gear icon).
- Under General, find the Backup Location field.
- Enter the path to your preferred folder.
- Click Save Settings.
New emails will be saved to the new location. Any existing backups in the old folder are not moved automatically — you can move them yourself if you’d like.
Using a NAS or external drive
You can store backups on a network drive, external hard drive, or NAS. Just make sure the drive is connected and accessible before BeeMail syncs.
Good to know: If the drive becomes unavailable during a sync, BeeMail will simply try again at the next scheduled interval. No data is lost.
For step-by-step NAS setup instructions, see BeeStation & Synology NAS Setup.
How backups are organized
BeeMail organizes your backups automatically. Inside your backup folder, you’ll find a subfolder for each email account, with emails sorted by year and month. You don’t need to set any of this up — BeeMail handles it for you.
